Hot meat seized in Tabunok
CEBU, Philippines - Atleast 70 kilos of hot meat were seized by authorities in Tabunok Public Market in Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City yesterday dawn.
Dr. Santiago Hortel, city veterinarian, led the operation together with the personnel of Talisay City Police.
The confiscated meat were owned by a certain Randy Ocampo.
Dr. Hortel said the meat were not passed for inspection in their office.
He said Ocampo's livestock were not slaughtered in Talisay City Slaughterhouse or any accredited slaughter facility.
Hortel said the seized meat were considered hot meat due to their substandard processing.
The city veterinarian told The Freeman that consumers may put themselves on danger if they eat this kind of meat since it is prone to bacteria.
He said consumers should be vigilant on what meat they buy especially during the holiday season.
An increased demand for meat is expected during the following month.
Hortel said they are still monitoring those meat vendors who are still sneaking in hot meat for sale in the city's public markets.
"Kinahanglan gyud na nga i-agi sa saktong proseso aron safety sa tanang tawo nga mokaun sa karne," Hortel said. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc of BANAT News
