CEBU, Philippines – Mandaue City will conduct a city-wide cleanup and beautification on Thursday (August 6) as part of the activities for its Charter Day anniversary celebration.

According to Association of Barangay Councils president Ernie Manatad, they included the activity in the celebration as a way to prepare for the upcoming ministerial meetings of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit.

Thursday’s cleanup activity is dubbed “Beautify Mandaue” and will run from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Since August 6 has been declared a province-wide holiday in Cebu to celebrate its 446th founding anniversary, all Mandaue City Hall employees, barangay officials and Clean and Green program workers are obliged to join the cleanup, said Engineer Marivic Cabigas, head of the city’s Department of General Services.

Cabigas said the beautification activity will be done in routes where APEC delegates will pass by, including U.N. Avenue, Plaridel Street towards Ouano Avenue, A. C. Cortes Street towards M.C. Briones Street going to Barangay Subangdaku.

According to Cabigas, employees will clean roads and canals, and repaint walls that are vandalized, roads and gutters, and do additional landscaping and trimming of plants and trees encroaching right of way roads.

Although the city did not allot any budget for the said activity, Cabigas said sponsorships from different entities and from barangays are welcome.
