Radaza hints on 2016 reelection
CEBU, Philippines - Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza yesterday hinted on seeking for reelection after months of evading questions about her political plans.
Though she did not directly state she is officially running again, Radaza told reporters that she still has a third term as mayor.
If she wins, she said, she will continue to prioritize programs in the areas of health, education, infrastructure and livelihood, among others.
"Atoa lang gihapon na ipadayon (We will keep the programs going)," Radaza said, adding that she will run under the Liberal Party (LP) banner this time.
Despite not having made a formal announcement of her presumed running, Radaza continues to enjoy the support of the majority of the barangay leaders. Last May, 18 of the 30 Lapu-Lapu City village chiefs signed a resolution expressing their intention to back Radaza if she seeks for reelection.
However, the mayor kept mum when she was asked whether she has discussed her plans with her husband, former congressman Arturo “Boy” Radaza, who was earlier rumored to run in 2016 for the Lapu-Lapu City mayoralty race.
Radaza, as well as Vice Mayor Marcial Ycong and city councilors, joined the LP wagon in September 2013 in a formal ceremony they attended in Quezon City. — (FREEMAN)
