John Yre: You slashed the budget and now you're soliciting?

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City administrator John Yre De los Reyes yesterday lambasted Councilor Danilo Caballero for asking financial assistance from the Cebu provincial government intended for the City's Sports Commission.

"If the City Council did not slash the budget of the Talisay City Sports Commission, dili na unta na sila sige og pangayo. January pa ta karon unya mangayo na ta'g budget sa Kapitolyo?" De los Reyes said in a text message to The Freeman.

Caballero is filing four separate resolutions asking P300,000 each from Governor Hilario Davide III and Vice Governor Agnes Magpale and P200,000 each from Board Members Raul Alcoseba and Julian Daan intended for Talisay City Sports Commission's projects this year.

The resolution is expected to be deliberated on Tuesday's council session.

Caballero, who is co-chairman of the City Sports Commission, pointed out in his resolution that the allocated funds for the City of Talisay Sports Commission for the year 2015 is minimal and will not be sufficient to effectively implement its programs.

"Si Councilor Caballero miingon nga minimal ang funds sa Sports Commission, unya nganong mi-apil man siya og paglaslas sa appropriation sa sports commission?" De los Reyes said.

Mayor Johnny De los Reyes originally appropriated P4.5 million this year but it was slashed by the council down to P100,000.

"Naigo ra sila sa ilang kaugalingong paglaslas sa budget unya mangayo dayon karon?" John Yre said.

Caballero said the financial assistance that he was asking from the provincial government is intended for the conduct of a summer workshop and other sports-related activities for the whole year round. —  (FREEMAN)
