Man hacked dead
CEBU, Philippines – A fistfight believed to have rooted from a personal grudge led to a 30-year-old man's stabbing in Sitio Tangki, Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City on Sunday evening.
Marco Laguisma sustained wounds on his right hand and right part of his head after his neighbor Archie Solis, 32, a native of Guihulngan, Negros Oriental, slashed him with the use of a bolo knife, police records said.
Investigation conducted by PO3 John Carlo Jocutan of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office revealed that Laguisma and his live-in partner Anavilla Galo, 31, were walking their way home when a certain Glen Labao, 27, reportedly a friend of Solis, suddenly approached them.
Feeling threatened by the hasty approach, Laguisma punched Labao in the face and Labao also hit back.
Solis, who saw the two fight, took a bolo knife and together with Labao, chased Laguisma.
When Solis and Labao cornered Laguisma, Solis allegedly hacked the latter several times and fled from the scene, evading the arresting officers.
The victim was rushed to Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital but was declared dead-on-arrival.
PO3 Jocutan said the police are still conducting a follow-up investigation to identify the duo's motive and for their possible arrest, although neighbors reportedly said the suspects and the victim were once embroiled in a misunderstanding.
