Hearing sought to regulate stall rent in Mandaue
CEBU, Philippines – The Mandaue City Market Authority will be calling for a public hearing with all market vendors presently occupying makeshift stalls outside the premises of the public market.
City Councilor Jimmy Lumapas told The FREEMAN that the public hearing is needed in order for him to draft an interim ordinance establishing the regulation of the rental rate of makeshift spaces as temporary stalls at the premises old the dilapidated market.
Lumapas said although the daily rentals market vendors are paying have been decreased to P30 from P70 to P80 after the 7.2-magnitude earthquake and typhoon Yolanda last year, the market authority, which he chairs, decided that an enabling law should be crafted to avoid any technicalities with the Commission on Audit.
During the public hearing, Lumapas said they will discuss with the market vendors about the drafting of the said interim ordinance.
He added that they will also be informing the market vendors that the P30 daily rental of their makeshift stalls will continue until the construction of a new market in Barangay Centro will be fully completed.
A new market is expected to be constructed during the first quarter next year as the city government is presently working on acquiring a P600 million loan through government to finance for its construction.
