Carcar City to implement color-coding starting Nov. 1

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Carcar City government will be implementing a color-coding scheme for pedicabs and tricycles for easy tracking of their routes in 15 barangays starting November 1.

There are about 1,000 tricycles operating in the city.

About 15 transport associations yesterday jam-packed the city’s gymnasium to discuss issues concerning the proliferation of tricycles plying along national highways.

Mayor Nicepuro Apura explained that the proposed local law would help solve the problem as the local government is empowered to prescribe and regulate zones of transport services under the mandate of the Local Government Code.

“Naa gyud color coding sa mga ruta and traffic (office) will strictly implement that they (drivers) follow their routes,” city information officer Candice Acuña told The FREEMAN.

“They can take passengers to routes other than designated to them, but they cannot go around the other routes and pick up passengers,” Acuña said.  (FREEMAN)
