Execs vow support vs illegal parking
CEBU, Philippines - Local officials in Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City, Cordova and northern towns of Cebu assured their support to the Department of Public Works and Highways in Central Visayas in their campaign against illegal parking beside the national highway.
In Mandaue City, Mayor Jonas Cortes said most privately-owned vehicles park along the national highway especially at nighttime and this may cause traffic problem.
The mayor said Mandaue, being a bottleneck for all vehicles coming from Lapu-Lapu City and northern Cebu, is experiencing traffic woes, specifically congestion during rush hours.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza directed the City Traffic Management System traffic enforcers to closely monitor vehicles parked along the national highway during nighttime.
Mayor Radaza said they are closely watching vehicles along the Mactan Circumferential Road and those leading to the Mactan-Cebu International Airport.
Traffic congestion is also one of the problems in Lapu-Lapu City and the city officials are now working to address the problem, she said. — Jose P. Sollano (FREEMAN)
