Land developers vow compliance
CEBU, Philippines - Subdivision developers in Consolacion assured town officials that they will comply with all the requirements set by the municipal government and the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board.
They made the assurance during the Subdivision Developers Forum held at SMC City Consolacion called by Mayor Teresa Alegado on Wednesday.
The forum, attended by the municipal officials of Consolacion, officials of HLURB and other realtors based in Cebu City, aimed to discuss issues and concerns affecting the subdivision development in the town.
Mayor Alegado said with the increasing subdivision in Consolacion, there is a need for them to be vigilant to prevent future problems.
According to Mayor Alegado, the municipal government has set separate measures for those applying for subdivision development, aside from the requirements set by the HLURB.
While they welcomed development in Consolacion, Mayor Alegado stressed that developers should follow the rules and regulations to avoid inconvenience in the future that may affect residents.
Mayor Alegado also revealed she filed a complaint two months ago against residents in the town who allegedly forged her signature to appear that they already secured authority from the Municipal Council.
It was learned that some residents in the town were selling subdivision lots but failed to secure the necessary permits.
Earlier, the municipal government has released a list of subdivisions and housing projects that have been granted permits by the town.
This is to prevent from selling lots those subdivision developers having no permits.
The "reckless" approval of subdivision plans in Consolacion has worsened flooding in some areas, the mayor said.
Mayor Alegado pointed out that one of the biggest challenges she said she inherited from previous administrations was the "reckless approval of subdivision plans within the municipality with total disregard on the environmental effects of such undertakings."
According to Mayor Alegado, they are suffering the effects of such "wanton abandonment."
Areas like Pitogo, Garden Blooms Subdivision and Laray are now facing the risk of flooding, she pointed out.
Most of these subdivision and housing projects are located at the mountain barangays of Consolacion. (FREEMAN)
