From new bldg to new courses: Vicente bares plans for Talisay college
CEBU, Philippines - From a new building to new courses, acting Talisay City College president Gamaliel Vicente Jr. laid out his plans for the school until the Board of Trustees appoints a permanent president.
Upon his assumption, Vicente said he will be endorsing to Mayor Johnny De los Reyes a plan that involves construction of a new TCC building. De los Reyes currently sits as the chairman of the school's BOT.
Likewise, while the TCC offers bachelor courses, Vicente will be proposing new vocational and technical courses for those who wish to land on jobs immediately. These will include welding, electronics, housekeeping, cooking and baking and bartending, among others.
Apart from planning to establish a new building and offer new courses, Vicente said he has also set plans on how to help improve the school's teaching methods.
"We will continue to improve TCC faculty in their methods of teaching, like (applying) Outcomes-Based Education so that we could produce topnotchers and passers. We will do what is the best for the school and students," he said.
Vicente added that all his plans for the school and students will be properly coordinated with and approved by the top management, De los Reyes and the board.
According to Vicente, the TCC's system of instructions will be delivered appropriately with constant reviews as the systems is needed to be changed for the current times.
Among his specific plans include updating of the current staffing pattern and organizational structure for the college; developing new buildings for the increasing number of students; providing offices for the alumni association and student council and offering new tech-voc courses.
His programs will also include linkages to various key players in public and private sectors for students to find jobs before and after graduation; updating of the current curriculum to Outcomes-Based Education for the TCC graduates to be competitive worldwide; and updating of faculty's qualifications and continuous professional education for them.
"In totality, in two years, as the acting Talisay City College president, I will be able to strengthen TCC in terms of networks and partnerships by using the latest technologies to facilitate an evident collaborative approach with the students, faculty, alumni and parents, involving them in a proactive role for the success of the college's undertakings," he said.
