METROPOLICE: Son stabs mother over garb reprimand

Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A 54-year-old mother was stabbed by his own son during a heated confrontation in their house Thursday morning in Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City.

Jocelyn Ibañez, residing in Sitio Masiwa of Barangay Basak, was rushed to Lapu-Lapu City Hospital after she sustained wounds in the different parts of her body when stabbed with a kitchen knife by her son.

The son was identified as Jobel Ibañez, 30.

Police investigation led by Senior Police Officer 2 Manolito Abellanosa revealed that around 7 o' clock in the morning Thursday, the victim reprimanded the suspect for wearing the company uniform of his brother but a confrontation ensued instead between them for several minutes.

Police said prior to the stabbing, the suspect went out of the house while the mother went to the house of her married daughter Rosebita Abaiz adjacent to their house. A few minutes later, she went back to their house and saw the suspect already armed with a kitchen knife and again confronted his mother and later stabbed her several times.

When neighbors knew about the stabbing as the mother was shouting for help, Rosebita then arrived to pacify her sibling and immediately brought her mother to the hospital as neighbors called for police assistance.

When the police responded to the alarm, they immediately arrested Jobel, who was just outside of the house when they arrived.

Police learned that the suspect was an illegal drug user and admitted to the stabbing, but reasoned out that he was so irked and never knew what he was doing at that time.

Police are preparing for an attempted parricide case against the suspect while waiting for the victim to execute an affidavit to file a case against him. (FREEMAN)
