Permit processing system helps city

Jose P. Sollano - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The new system and procedure adopted by the Mandaue City government three years ago for the processing, monitoring and evaluation and the issuance of business permits contributed to the development of the city.

Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede said the City Council passed an ordinance mandating these new systems on January 2011 and now they witnessed its results and contribution to the economic development of Mandaue City.

He said the council ordinance was enacted to simplify the process of providing business permits in order to spur economic growth and development and promote the expeditious delivery of basic services but without compromising the health and safety of the residents in Mandaue City.

According to Vice Mayor Bercede, the ordinance applies only to applicants for business permits who intend to engage in business that are not classified as high-risk enterprise as determined by existing zoning ordinance of the city.

For applicants who will engage in high-risk business, the ordinance approved by the city council shall not be applicable and a mere certification shall not be issued, said Vice Mayor Bercede.

"In addition such applicants cannot commence business operations without complying with all the requirements mandated by the existing Zoning Ordinance, the National Building Code, the Bureau of Fire Protection and other applicable laws," Vice Mayor Bercede added.  (FREEMAN)
