CEBU, Philippines - In a bid to mitigate risks, barangay officials and residents are urged to prepare contingency plans in case of calamities, such as flash floods or landslides due to extreme rainfall.

Talisay City's information officer and City Risk Reduction Disaster and Management Council head Vince Monterde yesterday said the city has identified barangays and sitios that are highly prone to flood and landslide.

Barangays Biasong, Bulacao Camp 4, Candulawan, Cansojong Dumlog, Jaclupan, Lagtang, Lawaan II, Lawaan III, Linao, Pooc, San Isidro, San Roque and Tabunok are areas identified with flooding.

Areas susceptible to landslide are Sitio Kabanayan of Bulacao; Sitio Camp 5 of Camp 4; Little Bamboo and Zone 1 of Candulawan; Camp 2 of Jaclupan; Sitios Tigib, Burlas, Sta. Catalina and Iba of Lagtang; Sitios Canduldulan and Candicay of Lawaan III; Sitios Sajavhoa, Sta. Maria Heights of Maghaway; Camp 5 and Proper Nagoyon of Manipis; Sitio Pang-pang of San Isidro and Sitios Campo and Purok 7 of Tapul.

Monterde said the results of the flood and landslide assessment and mapping will serve as guide for barangay and city officials on how to implement development programs and projects at the barangay level.

Based on the report, there are 3,790 families and 18, 950 individuals who will be affected if flooding occurs in the city because of heavy rains and stormy weather.   (FREEMAN)
