Metropolice: Homicide suspects fall in Naga hot pursuit
CEBU, Philippines - The men who allegedly robbed and killed their 45-year-old drinking buddy in Barangay North Poblacion, City of Naga Saturday were arrested by the police in a hot pursuit operation at their residences Sunday.
Noel Fernandez, 19, of Barangay Poblacion Ward 1, Minglanilla, was arrested by the police at his residence around 2 p.m. after he was identified as suspect in robbing and killing of Dionisio "Junjun" Yabut.
Recovered from him was the Suzuki Nexus motorcycle without plate number, a flat screen television and a laptop.
Fernandez no longer resisted the arrest when intelligence operatives of the City of Naga swooped down on him.
Hours after the arrest of Fernandez, Steven Villaganas, 20, of Barangay Pakigne, Minglanilla, personally surrendered to the police.
Police suspected that Villaganas thought he would be arrested soon prompting him to submit himself.
Both are now detained at the city's police stockade pending filing of robbery with homicide charges in fiscal's office.
To recall, Yabut was found lying lifeless inside his room with stab wounds in his body Saturday afternoon. He came from a drinking session and was accompanied by the suspects to his house when he was robbed and killed.
But Fernandez was identified when he took victim's valuables before he left the scene.
Meanwhile, a 25-year-old man was gunned down by two assailants while standing along the road in Barangay, Pulpogan, Consolacion at around 9:20 p.m Sunday.
Godfrey Glavol was along the road when assailants arrived and shot him several times hitting at the different parts of his body.
He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead a few minutes later by the attending physician.
A witness said she just heard bursts of gunfire while she was in her store and when she checked outside, Glavol was already lying in his own blood.
Police recovered eight empty shells of .40 caliber pistol at the crime scene. (FREEMAN)
