Naga cops lauded on drug suspect's arrest

CEBU, Philippines - City of Naga Mayor Valdemar Chiong yesterday commended and handed out cash incentives to city police director Superintendent Brindo Nacario and his men for the successful arrest of a drug suspect in Barangay Tangke last May 29.

The mayor said he has officially commended Nacario and his men for a job well done and urged them to work without letup to solve the problem of illegal drug trade in the city.

"Let me extend my warmest congratulations to the leadership of Supt. Brindo Nacario for his intensified campaign against the illegal drug trade in the city," Chiong said before a throng of City Hall employees in yesterday's flag raising ceremony.

The policemen received P10,000 each.

The 44-year-old suspect, Noli Cañete, was allegedly caught-in-the act of selling white crystalline powder locally known as shabu in a buy-bust operation conducted by an eight-man police team.

Found in his possession were 12 transparent plastic packs containing suspected shabu, one improvised shotgun with 16 live ammunitions, one transparent tooter, six crumpled tin foils and four disposable lighters.

Aside from Nacario, eight police operatives who were also recognized namely Senior Police Officer 1 Alex Nable, Police Officer 3 Francisco Codinera, Police Officer 3 Julito Navales, Police Officer 3 Gilmer Noval, Police Officer 1 Wilfredo Pada, Police Officer 1 Raymund Ramiez, Police Officer 1  Ramil Porcia and Police Officer 1  Glenn Conahap.

Meanwhile, the city also acquired two brand new vehicles -- one unit Toyota Commuter with complete ambulance kit and one unit Toyota Hilux pickup -- courtesy of KEPCO SPC and APO Cemex, respectively, during the regular flag-raising rites.

Chiong and the KEPCO SPC President signed the deed of donation while APO Cemex Plant Director Gerry Rota turned over a symbolic key to the mayor.

The new ambulance is an addition to the existing fleet of two emergency vehicles of the city while the Toyota Hilux will be used by the local PNP for patrol and crime response.

The two companies expressed their continuous support to the city governmet of Naga saying it is part of their corporate social responsibility. (FREEMAN)
