DPWH allocates P84M for Mandaue drainage
CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Public Works and Highways regional office yesterday announced the allocation of P83.7 million to finance the construction and rehabilitation of drainage at A.S. Fortuna Street in Mandaue City.
DPWH regional office spokesman Engineer Marie Nillama said the amount was taken from the regular budget of the department to implement the project in Mandaue.
According to Nillama, the project was already awarded to PB Obial Construction, the winning bidder of the project and that it will be implemented anytime this month.
Nillama said the project is scheduled to be finish by February next year.
The implementation of the project aims to address the drainage problem along A.S. Fortuna Street in Barangay Banilad.
The Mandaue City government and the DPWH are closely coordinating to address the problem, officials said in a statement.
Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes said the city government allocated funds to improve the drainage system in Mandaue. But due to the lack of funds, the city needs the support from the Department of Public Works and Highways.
Sixth district Representative Gabriel "Luigi" Quisumbing also made representation to the DPWH to allocate funds to address the drainage problem. (FREEMAN)
