Mayor authorized to open account for water program

CEBU, Philippines -  The Talisay City Council yesterday authorized Mayor Johnny de los Reyes to open a special trust account in compliance with the memorandum of agreement for the implementation of the Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig para sa Lahat program.

City Councilor Richard Francis Aznar, chairman of the committee on health, yesterday said the city government received a P5-million grant from the program of the national government identified as one of the priority areas for the Bottom- Up Planning and Budgeting Projects.

According to Aznar, the Salintubig program aims to provide sufficient and potable water to all the households in the barangay that anchors to the local poverty alleviation reduction program of the national government.

Aznar said the program is consistent with the Millennium Development Goal No. 7 that seeks to reduce by 50 percent the world's population without access to safe and potable water, which our government committed to provide water to all Filipinos particularly to poor and waterless communities.

The Department of Interior and Local Government is the lead agency responsible for the capacity development requirements of the local government units in the planning, development and operations and management of the water services funded through the Salintubig.  (FREEMAN)
