Mural underway for city's flyover
CEBU, Philippines - The Subangdaku flyover in Mandaue City will soon be adorned with mural painting by the famous mural artist Amado Guerrero "AG" Saño.
Saño, who has teamed up with the Cebu Kabanay Lions Club, is set to paint the walls with the theme that conveys the importance of protecting the environment. The painting job has already started in March and is targeted to be finished this month.
Saño, Cebu Kabanay and Barangay Captain Ernie Manatad have signed a memorandum of agreement for the said mural work. Volunteers will also help in the painting.
"This is the first flyover art in the Philippines," Saño told reporters yesterday.
He said he was overwhelmed by the participation and enthusiasm shown by the people of Mandaue, as more than 100 volunteers are helping him finish the paintings.
Dr. Marilyn Campano, the club president and co-chair of the mural painting project, said four other flyovers in Cebu City will be adorned with mural paintings.
Meanwhile, Manatad said the Department of Public Works and Highways is set to strengthen and repaint the flyover, but he requested the agency to retain the mural paintings which are mostly done under the flyover and on some of its fences.
He also expressed confidence the mural paintings will not be vandalized, saying he has involved in this project as many sectors possible, including the youth.
He said barangay tanods and the police will help apprehend those who will vandalize the project once it is completed.
"I hope other barangays in the city will also initiate such move," Manatad said. (FREEMAN)
