Talisay councilor wants all city street lights inspected

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Councilor Antonio D. Bacaltos Jr. is urging City Hall's Engineering Department to conduct a systematic inspection of all street lightings.

Bacaltos, in a resolution No. 2014-17-5 approved, said the need for more lighting was urgent as it is the innate duty of the LGU to provide its citizens with basic services that will ensure their welfare and protection.

Bacaltos acknowledged that poor lighting in an area will be partly blamed for the criminality, where bad elements operate in the dark areas and carry out their abhorrent motives over unsuspecting and helpless drivers, passengers and passers-by.

Bacaltos said the role of the city government is to safeguard the welfare of the people from elements or possibilities that would endanger the lives of residents.

"Having sufficient street lights will discourage lawless elements committing their illegal acts against hapless victims during night time," Bacaltos said.

"We respectfully request Honorable Johnny V. Delos Reyes to direct the City Engineering Office of the city to conduct a systematic inspection of all street light in the City of Talisay vis-a-vis the apparent inadequate street lighting in the major streets of the city," the resolution read.
