Consolacion forms emergency response unit
CEBU, Philippines - The creation of the Consolacion Emergency Response Team is seen to assure residents of Consolacion town of immediate response during disaster and calamities.
Consolacion Mayor Teresa Alegado and members of the Municipal Council agreed on the creation of CERT to immediately respond to any disasters and calamities that happen in the town.
In the past, the municipality of Consolacion encountered disaster response challenges, such as when the river in Barangay Cansaga and Nangka would overflow.
Addressing emergency needs, Alegado said, is also considered as important to educate the people at the barangay level and deal with their needs after calamities.
Meanwhile, Liloan Municipal Mayor Vincent Franco "Duke" Frasco lauded barangay officials of Catarman for the success of the yearly Parola Festival in the barangay on Sunday which was witnessed by hundreds of residents.
Mayor Frasco expressed his thanks to Barangay Captain Jimmy Maglasang and members of the barangay council who invited him to grace the affair.
Parola Festival used to be the town festival in Liloan but was changed to Rosquillos Festival as the town is made known for the said delicacy.
Barangay Catarman continued the Parola Festival in the barangay and is attracting more visitors in the town, said Frasco.
The mayor said the municipal government provided financial assistance of P100,000 to Barangay Catarman and another P60,000 to cover for cash prizes of the winners.
The first placer took home P30,000; second placer, P20,000; and third placer, P10,000.
