'Homes in danger zones must move'
CEBU, Philippines - The Lapu-Lapu City government should fast-track the transfer of those residing at danger zones in the different city barangays.
Philippine Climate Change Commissioner Naderev Sano urged local officials of Lapu-Lapu City to prioritize the transfer of those living at the coastal barangays identified as danger zones.
Sano said the thousands of fatalities when super typhoon Yolanda hit Cebu and Leyte shows the need to look into the issue, although he admitted the city government needs millions of pesos to address the problem by putting a good relocation site.
He further said that the city government should closely coordinate with different national government agencies like the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the National Housing Authority.
Mayor Paz Radaza said in previous interview that the city government listed relocation as one of the priorities under her administration.
