JVR orders repair of busted city lights
CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Mayor Johnny De los Reyes has directed the General Services Office to monitor and immediately change all busted streetlights, more especially those at the Cebu South Coastal Road.
De los Reyes confirmed that several complaints on busted streetlights already reached his office. He said the failure to repair damaged street lamps would only encourage more crimes, such as snatching incidents and vehicular accidents involving pedestrians.
GSO head Joan Vebar said that new wirings for the street lights are necessary since most of them are already stolen.
"Kinahanglan nga butangan og mga bag-ong linya sa kuryente ang mga poste tungod kay dugay na kining gipangawat. Ang mga poste gihimolbolan ug gipangawat ang mga wire hinungdan nga napawong ang mga suga," Vebar said.
Still in Talisay City, Councilor Aldin Diaz is asking the mayor to verify and check whether business establishments in the city uphold the promotion of worker's rights, like giving the exact wages and benefits as provided by labor laws.
Diaz, a businessman who runs a funeral parlor, said that he wants the employees should be paid at wages sufficient to provide adequate self maintenance and protect health.
"Any wage that does not suffice the needs of the employees impairs the health, efficiency, and well-being of persons employed. We want to ensure that other business establishments are in compliance with the regulatory requirements for safety and general public welfare," Diaz said in his resolution. (FREEMAN)
