Jonas visits Camotes, doles out financial aid
CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes yesterday continued to give financial assistance to victims of super typhoon Yolanda.
The mayor was in Camotes Island and gave a total of P1,450,000.
San Francisco received P400,000 financial assistance last week yet when Mayor Aly Arquillano visited Cortes at his office.
Yesterday, Pilar received P350,000 from Cortes, the money turned over to town treasurer Helen Gaboneda and town councilors.
Town officials said the money will be used for its rehabilitation program considering that 90 percent of its population was badly affected.
The town faces Ormoc town in Leyte.
Pilar until now continues to suffer from power outage.
It only has a generator set at the town hall where residents can charge their cellular phones and other gadgets for free.
In Tudela town, Mayor Erwin Yu and Vice Mayor Greman Solante received P300,000 from Cortes.
They said the money will be used to purchase “cacao seedlings†so farmers can start again their main source of livelihood.
Poro, the last one to be visited, received P300,000 from Cortes.
Town officials said the money will be spent on construction materials to rebuild houses.
Beginning December last year, Cortes and the city councilors of Mandaue have been distributing financial assistance to towns and cities in the northern part of Cebu, and soon in Leyte province. – (FREEMAN)
