Northern town mayors thank Jonas for help

CEBU, Philippines -  Officials in northern towns of  Cebu have  expressed gratitude to Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes and city officials for the financial assistance rendered to the typhoon victims.

The Mandaue City Council passed an ordinance authorizing Mayor Cortes to grant financial assistance to 15 local government units in northern Cebu and five local government units in the Province of Leyte amounting to P8 million.

Sogod Mayor Lissa Marie "Moonyeen" Durano-Streegan told The Freeman that  she was happy when  told  that  Sogod was included in the list of towns in Northern Cebu to be given financial assistance by the city government of Mandaue.

According to Mayor Duran-Streegan, the town received an initial financial assistance from the Provincial Government but it need more money to address the needs of typhoon victims.

"Nalipay kaayo kami sa Sogod nga nakita sa atong mga opisyal sa Mandaue ilabi na gayud ni Mayor Jonas Cortes nga paabutan usab sa tabang,"  Durano-Streegan said.

In Borbon town, Mayor Bernard "Butch' Sepulveda said thousands of the residents in the town need help.

He said the town doesn't have the money to provide residents housing materials.

"Dako gayud kaayo ang among kalipay nga Borbonanon nga ang atong mga opisyal sa Mandaue mipaabot sa ilang tabang," Sepulveda said.

The City of Mandaue and the town of Borbon entered a sisterhood agreement last year.

Sepulveda said aside from their sisterhood agreement, known families now living in the town come from Mandaue City.

Mayor Zigfred "Dodong" Duterte of Tabogon, Cebu is happy with the help from Mandaue.

Tabogon town will receive P300 thousand from Mandaue.

In San Remigio town, Mayor Mariano Martinez said he was informed when The Freeman called him about the financial assistance from Mandaue City.

Like other mayors, Martinez said he is happy with the financial assistance from Mandaue.

The town of San Remigio will receive P400,000 from Mandaue.

Medellin Mayor Ricardo Ramirez also expressed his gratitude to Mayor Jonas Cortes and city officials for the P400,000 in financial assistance.

Daanbantayan town Mayor Augusto Corro said he is happy for the P550,000 in financial help.

The City of  Bogo will also receive P600,000, Bantayan town will receive P500,000, and Sta. Fe and Madridejos towns will also receive P400 thousand each.

The city government of Mandaue has also allocated P600 thousand for Tacloban City, Ormoc City will receive P600 thousand, municipality of Alang-Alang P250 thousand, municipality of Albuera P250 thousand, and the municipality of Palo P300,000.  (FREEMAN)
