CEBU, Philippines - To show its concern for women’s issues and problems, the Danao City government will host the first Women’s Summit on November 25 and 26 at the Danao City Civic Center.

Danao City Councilor Carmen Remedios Durano-Meca, chairman of the Committee on Women, Family Uplift and Social Services of the city council, said the summit’s aim is to gather women advocates from the government and the private sector.

“Most importantly, we aim to consolidate their various efforts and initiatives and build a wider network of committed women advocates,” she said.

Durano-Meca is also an ex-officio member of the Cebu Provincial Board and president of the Philippine Councilors League-Cebu Province Chapter.

The theme for this first summit is “Hastening the Empowerment of Women and Strengthening Local Governance in the City of Danao.”

Durano-Meca said the opening of the summit also marks the start of the nationwide observance of the 18th Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women under Memorandum Circular No. 2013-111 of  the Department of  Interior and Local Government (DILG). (FREEMAN)
