Mandaue stops erring garbage truck

Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City’s Solid Waste Management enforcement unit apprehended a garbage truck and fined its owner for a string of violations.

Last Saturday morning, Placido Jerusalam, head of the enforcement unit, said the truck belonging to business establishment “Unitop” was seen disposing of garbage at a private dump site in sitio Tambis in barangay Umapad, Mandaue City.

Jerusalem said that although the place is a dump site, business establishments cannot just dump garbage there without first securing a permit from the city government.

Unitop paid P5,000 for entering into a contract with the dump site, P1,000 for dumping outside the scheduled time, P1,000 for disposing of assorted garbage, and P500 for indiscriminate disposal of garbage. — (FREEMAN)
