Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Naga City has approved a proposed resolution which asks for P1.2 million for victims of typhoon ‘Yolanda’ in the towns of Northern Cebu.

Mayor Valdemar Chiong said the money will be taken from the Quick Response Fund and will be spent for relief goods.  Each local government unit will be given 500 packs of goods that will be turned over to the local chief executive.

Meanwhile, the local government officials in northern towns of  Cebu see to it water is safe to drink.

Government officials of Bogo City and the municipalities of  San Remegio, Daanbantayan, and Medellin are working on normalizing their water systems.

San Remegio Mayor Mariano Martinez said he is now scouting for generator sets to power water lines.

Martinez said a Good Samaritan from Cebu City has lent the city a generator set that can supply electricity to its water system.

This amount of power would be enough to make its water system’s pumps work, which will provide water to households in 13 of  its 27 barangays.

San Remegio has about 5,000 families that have been affected by typhoon Yolanda.

In Daanbantayan, Mayor Augusto Corro said he has already instructed the Rural Health Unit to store enough chlorine to ensure the potability of water from other sources.

Daanbantayan has about 12,000 families affected by the typhoon.

In Medellin, four of the six power systems are expected to be normalize, according to Medellin Vice Mayor Alfonso Lim.

The town rented two generator sets a day after the typhoon.

Lim said his town expects pledges from Asturias and Aloguinsan.

Medellin has more than 5,000 affected residents.

Bogo, also badly hit, already rations water.

Vice Mayor Santiago Sevilla assured his city has one big generator set that can produce enough electricity needed by its water system.  (FREEMAN)
