Lapu-Lapu is ready for barangay polls
CEBU, Philippines - In Lapu-Lapu City, 78 are running for barangay captain while 598 are vying for the barangay councilor post, the Commission on Elections said.
Most of the candidates for barangay captains had held the position before or are incumbent barangay councilors.
The police are closely watching the barangays on account of the death of a supporter of a candidate for barangay captain in the 2010 elections.
Checkpoints are being set up in different places to assure a peaceful elections.
Incumbent barangay captain Lourdes Ibag who is seeking re-election are facng two opponents, incumbent councilor Diosaminda Hayashi and Jaime Ponce Dano.
Other barangays where the barangay captains served for three terms are being replaced by their wives who now seek the same post. – (FREEMAN)
