Talisay budget officer: No truth to deficit yarn
CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City budget officer Edgardo Mabunay rejected claims the city was short by P39 million when the new administration assumed office in July.
“Di ta allowed ma-deficit, violation na sa Local Govenment Code,†Mabunay said.
Mabunay said the city might have ran out of cash by the time Mayor Johnny delos Reyes assumed his seat but it does not mean the city fell short of what was required. “Wap-a man mag-closing so di sya kasulti nga deficit na. Pero dili man g’yud allowed ma-defict ang LGU,†Mabunay said.
The city budget officer said the city runs on a P 300-million internal revenue allotment plus P147 income for this year alone.
He said it cannot exhaust that large sum in just two quarters.
And besides, the city always has a “surplus†of funds after every end of the year, he said.
“We always have a surplus because we can’t spend beyond what is approved (by the council),†he said.
Mabunay’s explanation came following reports that the city is already in deficit by P39 million, after the administration under the leadership of former mayor Socrates Fernandez allegedly has exhausted the city’s funds before it turned over the city hall to the new administration. (FREEMAN)
