CEBU, Philippines - The body of an 18-year-old man was found floating at the FF Cruz pier in Mandaue City Friday afternoon.

Yesterday morning, Walter Pabalan identified the body as belonging to his cousin Malvin Tupas, of Purok Butterfly, barangay Babag, Lapu-Lapu City.

Police said at around 1:00 p.m. last Friday, a fisherman, after finding a body, quickly informed the Philippine Coast Guard Office at the Mandaue wharf.

PO2 Wenceslao Ceplon of the PCG then informed the Investigation and Detective Management Branch (IDMB) of Mandaue City Police Office.

IDMB called SOCO for assistance.

PO1 Gerry Gasgonia of the IDMB said Tupas’ body was taken to Rolling Hills for autopsy to determine the real cause of his death after an open wound on his head was found.

Gasgonia said last Friday afternoon, a friend of Tupas told police that prior to the discovery of the body, Tupas and his friends were foraging for seashells.

After gathering seashells, they all decided to go home but they did not know Tupas went to his uncle’s house.

“Kay wa lagi niuli pagka Miyerkules gikan, naaghat daw ang uyuan niini nga i-report sa police nga missing ug sige na sila pangita hangtod biernes,” Gasgonia said.

Pabalan only learned about Tupas’ death yesterday morning after calling police stations in Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu cities.  (FREEMAN)
