Talisay SP asks Sen. Legarda for communication equipment

CEBU, Philippines - CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City council has asked Senator Loren Legarda to donate communication equipment such as hand-held radio communication devices for the Office of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.

Councilor Danilo F. Caballero said these devices will be used for the establishment of a community-based early warning system.          “The acquisition of communication devices such as handheld radios for the Talisay City Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management is necessary for the effective mobilization of its services,” Caballero said.

Caballero said communication by usage of modern devices as medium plays a vital role in effective implementation of the promulgated disaster risk reduction and management approaches that lessen socioeconomic and environmental impacts of disasters and promote involvement of all sectors.

Mayor Johnny V. de los Reyes of the City of Talisay has already convened the new members of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council last August 27.

Caballero said there is a need for immediate and accurate information in times of disaster to give early warning and guidance to the whole community if needed. (FREEMAN)
