Firm asks Talisay to allow its boats to dock at fish port

Brenda Batuto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City will likely earn additional income if it allowed the Glenn Defense Marine (Asia) PTE. Ltd. to dock at its fish port.

The Glenn Defense Marine, a civilian contractor of the US Navy, owns sea vessels that will be used to transport Navy officers and crews from their big ships to the fish port to carry out their community service in Cebu.

Most of the Navy ships are anchored far from the port.

The other week city Councilor Richard Francis “Choy” Aznar authored a resolution allowing Mayor Johnny De los Reyes to sign a memorandum of agreement with the Glenn Defense Marine.

Aznar said the contractor had offered to pay for the use of the port.

On other hand, Talisay City Public Information Officer Vincie Monterde told The Freeman that city hall will act on the request only after it has determined the status of the port – whether it has been turned over to the city or who right now manages it.  (FREEMAN)
