77 hired on the spot in Mandaue job fair

CEBU, Philippines - A total of 77 job applicants were hired on the spot during the local and overseas job fair organized by the city government of Mandaue yesterday at Insular Square, highway, Basak, Mandaue City.

Musoline Suliva, Public Employment Service Office (PESO) manager, said hired were 37 applicants by Force Manpower Agency, 34 by Gaisano Metro, and 6 by SM-Cebu City and Consolacion.

A total of 32 local and 4 overseas companies participated in the one-day job fair.

Monde Nissin Corporation, a Mandaue City-based food processing company, is hiring some 250 production crew and machine operators, among others for the peak Christmas season, according to Ethel Rea Colina, human resource assistant.

On the other hand, Danao City-based Cebu Mitsumi, Inc., an electronics firm, is hiring more than 1,000 women as production workers under the 5 month apprenticeship program called, Kasanayan Alang sa  Hanapbuhay (KASH).

A total of 18 applicants took the written exam.

An applicant who passes the exam will undergo two interviews, said Edwin Hontrada, management representative.

Another electronics firm, Mandaue City based-Knowles Electronics (Phils), Cebu is hiring more than 200 female production workers by the end of the year to cope with the increasing market demand, said Agnes Lucente, senior human resource manager.

“I am very happy to have been hired, I can now support my family,” said Monic Timtim, a newly hired employee of Gaisano Grand Mall in Mandaue City.

Meriam Galinato, human resource supervisor of SM City-Cebu City, said those who will be hired as female salesclerks and male sales utility clerks will enjoy the minimum wage and fringe benefits provided by law and will be regularized if found qualified.

Suliva said apart from the job fair, his office will continue to process applications in view of the demands from companies.

Mona Yrezabal, marketing manager of Insular Square said the management will continue to host more job fairs in the future as its contribution to alleviate poverty in the community. (FREEMAN)
