Man, 20, held for “rape” of niece, 13

Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The police arrested Tuesday in sitio Tambis in barangay Banilad, Mandaue City a 20-year-old man who time and again allegedly raped his 13-year-old niece last year.

The alleged rapist went into hiding last year after learning a rape case had been filed in court against him.

His arrest came after the police learned from a caller about his presence at a friend’s house.

The arrest warrant was issued by Presiding Judge Teresita Abarquez-Galanida of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 56 on January 31, 2013 for rape charges in relation to child abuse or Republic Act 7610.

No bail was recommended for his temporary liberty.

Sometime in August 2012, the girl spoke in confidence to her teacher about her ordeal. The teacher later accompanied her to the police.

She claimed her uncle forced her to have sex with him many times in his grandmother’s house where he resides.

He is now detained at the Casuntingan police station.  (FREEMAN)
