Boy drowns in a spring
CEBU, Philippines - A grade two pupil from the Leonard Wood Elementary in barangay Jagobiao, Mandaue City drowned Wednesday afternoon in a spring in sitio San Jose.
Basak Police station chief P Sr./Insp .Wilson Abot identified the victim as nine-year-old James Luis Sarsalejo.
The boy, together with a classmate and a neighbor, was on his way home when they decided to cool themselves in a spring.
Jerry Cabiguing, the spring’s caretaker, dove into the water when he saw a boy struggling to get out of the water, Abot said.
Sarsalejo did not reach the Eversly Child Sanitarium Hospital alive.
Abot said residents relied on the spring for their water but later patronized commercial water.
He said the water in the spring rises when the tide turns and therefore poses danger to children. (FREEMAN)
