3 Talisay cops being probed

Brenda Batuto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Three police officers of the Talisay City Police Station are being investigated for their alleged involvement in the smuggling of lumber.

Superintendent Resty Santos, officer-in-charge of TCPS, told The Freeman yesterday that after he received information from Mayor Johnny De los Reyes last Thursday afternoon, he immediately demanded an explanation from them.

Last Thursday dawn, the police learned that a pump boat from Mindanao loaded with lumber was docked at a wharf in sitio Litmon, barangay Poblacion, Talisay.

According to Santos, his personnel had told him the police had seized five smuggled lumber measuring 25 board feet each.

What the mayor was told was that 500 fine lumber were on a pump boat and that 50 of which were taken by a resident of barangay Poblacion.

It was also alleged that each of the lumber is worth P3,000.

De los Reyes has warned the police against committing irregularities. (FREEMAN)
