Training of village watchmen sought

CEBU, Philippines - A newly-elected Cordova councilor has suggested to have village watchmen trained in view of the lack of policemen in the town and that classes are to open next month.

Cesario Munez, an educator, told The Freeman

the number of policemen in the town is not enough to monitor the 13 barangays.

Munez said barangay tanods can be effective if they undergo proper training, as they know the people in the barangays.

He said every barangay has 20 barangay tanods, and if trained properly, can maintain peace and order effectively.  (FREEMAN)
