CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City mayor-elect Johnny delos Reyes and vice mayor-elect Romeo Villarante are reportedly starting to organize a transition committee that will initially take care of things before they assume office on July 1.

In an interview with reporters, Villarante said the mission of the team is “to smoothen up” many administrative matters up to the eventual assumption of elected officials, especially delos Reyes.

Both delos Reyes and Villarante belong to the Liberal Party.

They won over veteran lawmaker first district Rep. Eduardo Gullas and Vice Mayor Alan Bucao who belong to the Alayon party.

Villarante, who is a lawyer and former municipal legal officer of then municipality of Talisay, said delos Reyes has no political background.

Villarante, however, said on the legislative aspect, everything is in place especially the committee chairmanships, the changes of the city council house rules, among others.

Department of Interior and Local Government Memorandum Circular 2013-33 of Sec. Manuel Roxas dated April 18 was issued mandating all local government chief executives to create a transition committee in anticipation of the results of the elections.

The committee will perform the following duties and responsibilities: Conduct inventory of all real or immovable properties of the local government such as land, buildings, infrastructure facilities, and improvements of machineries, and all movable properties of the local government such as vehicles, office equipment, furniture, fixtures, supplies stocks, and others.
