CEBU, Philippines - The Office of the President of the Philippines has declared April 27 this year as a special non-working holiday for Lapu-Lapu City.

Proclamation 563, signed by President Benigno  Aquino’s executive secretary Oaquito Ochoa Jr., states that April 27, 2013 marks the celebration of the “Kadaugan sa Mactan,” a cultural and historical event in Lapu-Lapu City.

Ochoa said it is but fitting and proper that the people of Lapu-Lapu be given the opportunity to celebrate and participate in such an occasion with appropriate ceremonies.

“Whereas, the Battle of Mactan is among the significant events in Philippine history and serves as testimony to the rich cultural and historical heritage of the Filipinos,” Ochoa said.

A reenactment of the Battle of Mactan will be among the highlights of the “Kadaugan sa Mactan” on April 27 wherein actors Paolo Ravales will play the role of Lapu-Lapu, Troy Montero as Ferdinand Magellan, and Yam Morales as Reyna Bulakna.

Other activities include the “Kadaugan Street Party,” “Rampada,” or street dancing, Reyna Bulakna Pageant, cosplay, and “Higante” contest.

On the other hand, Lapu-Lapu City Traffic Management System has already released a traffic plan for the reenactment of the “Kadaugan sa Mactan.”  (FREEMAN)
