Shipowner hires salvor

Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The owner of a capsized cargo ship has hired a salvor to recover it after overturning three weeks ago near the Cabahug Wharf in Mandaue City.

Philippine Coast Guard Cebu District Head Winiel Azcuna said the owner of M/V Maria Angelica has already hired the services of Uni Orient Pearl Venture Incorporated which will work for 45 day days.

Before anything else, the company will have to drain off 8,000 liters of oil from the ship.

“After the siphoning of the oil, the vessel will be turned upright,” Azcuna said.

Last week, the salvor brought its equipment to the Cabahug wharf.

But due to the observance of the Holy Week, it resumed its work only yesterday.

Work by the Uni Orient Pearl Venture Incorporated will be monitored by the PCG, Azcuna said. (FREEMAN)
