Lapu-Lapu building an MRF in Olango
CEBU, Philippines - A P2.5 million Material Recovery Facility (MRF) is being put up by the Lapu-Lapu City government in Olango Island, Mayor Paz Radaza yesterday said.
Radaza sent Monday 20 city hall personnel to the island to train residents there on how to operate the 230-square meter facility in sitio Tungasan.
A task force is being formed that would be tasked to issue citation tickets to violators of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, an act which mandates the LGU’s to close their open dumpsites and put up an MRF.
Radaza said there is really a need to put up an MRF in Olango on the ground that the island is being groomed as an eco-tourism hub.
Once the MRF is in place, waste will be segregated and recycled in the facility.
Non-biodegradable materials, such as plastic bags, will be put into a shredder and the shredded plastic will be used to make hollow blocks and plant boxes. (FREEMAN)
