Talisay dad warns against heat stroke

Cebu, Philippines - Francis Richard Aznar, Talisay City council chairman of the committee on health, has urged residents to be wary of heat stroke as the country experiences increasingly hotter temperatures due to the onset of the summer season. 

There is no recorded case of heat stroke yet in the city but Aznar advises people to be on guard. 

According to Aznar, he will distribute leaflets and posters concerning heat stroke, and which would advise heat stroke victims to seek medical help.

Aznar reminds discourages people from staying under the sun especially from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. when the sun is at its hottest.

He said the exposure can cause skin lesions or burns or even worse, skin cancer – when a person is regularly over-exposed to ultraviolet rays. 

Heat stroke is a most severe form of heat illness when the body overheats and can’t cool down.

The body cannot take off the excessive heat from the body by sweating because of dehydration and/or humid environment. 

Aznar discourages residents from staying too long outdoors. 

Summer months are from March to May, when people engage in outdoor activities such as going to beaches, and mountain trekking, and attending town fiestas, among others.

As a precaution, Aznar advises the public to wear light clothing that covers the whole body and the use of hats or umbrellas and sun blocks to protect themselves.  (FREEMAN)
