Paz asks students to urge MCIAA to settle its debts

CEBU, Philippines - The Lapu-Lapu City government has turned to students for help in persuading the Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority to pay its long overdue real property as well as business taxes estimated to reach P1.8 billion.

Radaza said she has started to urge student organizations in the city to appeal to MCIAA for payment of its taxes.

Radaza said the city government through the City Treasurer’s Office and the City Attorney’s Office continue to send letters to MCIAA officials reminding them of their obligations to the city government.

“Sa atong bahin kanunay kita nga nagpadala ug sulat sa mga opisyal sa MCIAA nga unta mubayad na sila sa ilang obligasyon sa dakbayan sa Lapu-Lapu,” Radaza said.

Radaza said the students in both elementary and high schools in the city would be the first to benefit once MCIAA pays. New school buildings would immediately be built.

City School Division Superintendent Eduardo Ompad  said the Department of Education lacks funds to address lack of classrooms.

He said DepEd needs the support of the city government to address the problem.  (FREEMAN)
