Freeman Metro Cebu

Village tearing down campaign materials

Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Barangay Ibabao-Estancia captain Carmelino del Mar has ordered barangay tanods to add in their daily routine work the tearing down of campaign materials in the barangay now that posters of national candidates have started to appear in non-designated campaign poster areas.

Barangay tanods bring along with them water, ladders, and scrapers to remove campaign materials from waiting sheds, electric posts, trees, and walls.

Most of the campaign materials taken down so far are tarpaulins showing senatorial candidate Miguel Zubiri and gubernatorial candidate Glen Soco.

The tarpaulins were taken to the barangay hall and will be turned over to claimants, and will be disposed of if there are no claimants to prevent the barangay hall from being filled with campaign materials.

Tanods will not touch campaign materials that spring up in private properties that have the consent of owners. (FREEMAN)
