Policemen in Talisay cautioned

Brenda Batuto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City Police Station officer-in-charge Superintendent Elmer Lim yesterday said policemen have only a maximum of three days to keep a driver’s license in their possession while trying to resolve traffic accidents.

Lim said policemen who withhold licenses beyond the reglamentary period of three days are looking for trouble.

Lim said policemen or traffic enforcers have no authority to take possession of driver’s licenses.

Only the Land Transportation Office (LTO) enjoys this right, he said.

Lim said if the parties involved in an accident cannot resolve the matter within three days, their licenses should be turned over to LTO.

In another development, chairman of the City of Talisay Traffic Operation Development Authority (CT-TODA) Vice Mayor Alan Bucao is waiting for the results of the investigation being conducted by the traffic board involving six traffic enforcers who allegedly demanded money from jeepney drivers.

The six traffic enforcers will face punishment if found guilty. — (FREEMAN)
