Pedicab driver dies in mishap
CEBU, Philippines - A 23-year-old pedicab driver died after a car hit his vehicle Thursday evening at the South Coastal Road, barangay San Roque, Talisay City.
Ruel Cabanes, of barangay Tanke, Talisay City was taken by the Talisay Rescue Emergency Action Team (TREAT) to Talisay City District Hospital but died on the way.
The driver of the Toyota car, with plate number YBC-239, identified as Justin Paolo Mabitad, 18, of barangay San Isidro, Talisay City, was temporarily detained at the Talisay City detention cell.
Police said Mabitad was on his way home while Cabanes was pushing his pedicab at the roadside when the accident happened.
The road was dark and Mabitad may not have seen Cabanes, police said.
Due to the impact, Cabanes sustained severe injuries which caused his death. (FREEMAN)
