Student found dead along SRP shoreline

CEBU, Philippines - A student from Leyte was found dead along the shoreline of South Road Property yesterday morning.

John Rey Redoña, 25, a Bachelor of Elementary Education student from a certain university in Leyte and a resident of Poblacion, Zone 2, Mayorga, Leyte was found dead along the shoreline at SRP Viadock, sitio Bato, barangay Ermita, Cebu City at around 5:00 in the morning.

According to PO3 Geoffrey Gutual, Redoña was seen floating with a dog chain tied to his left hand while the other end was tied to a rock.

Police said a security guard detailed at the SRP Gate1 was informed by a scavenger about the body, which prompted him to inform the police.

An alleged suicide note found inserted in his school identification card, asked for apology, and expressed his gratitude to his relatives, at the same time bidding them goodbye.

Gutual said the police contacted the telephone numbers written on the note.

“Na-contact namo sila ganiha, wa man nituo, niingon man unsa mana joke joke ng inyo sir? Ngano kuno naabot sa Cebu”. (We contacted them (relatives), they did not trust us, they even said if it was just a joke and wondered why he is in Cebu), Gutual said.

Recovered from the scene were 1 sling bag containing a student driver’s license with the official receipt, white t-shirt, school papers, his study load, a pair of shoes with black socks, a pink Nokia cellular phone, his school ID card, a dog chain with a small lock, an alleged suicide note, a white bond paper with the markings “JOHN 4-EVER MAE” and handwritten dates “Start: 03-15-2012 End: 12-09-12,  and a love letter from a certain Janniemae.

The police found no signs that would indicate foul play was involved.

Redoña’s remains were taken to Sure Life Funeral Home for autopsy. (FREEMAN)
