Lapu-Lapu to go on with dengue drive
CEBU, Philippines - Despite a drop in the number of dengue cases this year, the Lapu-Lapu City Health Department will continue its information drive to prevent dengue in the barangays.
The health department recorded more than two hundred cases of dengue for the past ten months but records show the figure is lower compared to the same period last year which registered more than 300 cases.
Department head Dr. Rodulfo Berame said despite the decrease in dengue cases, the city will continue its trips to the barangays.
Berame cited the need to educate the people to prevent the spread of the disease.
He said the decrease is being attributed to the intensified campaign initiated by his office in coordination with the Department of Education and barangays.
Last year, Lapu-Lapu City ranked second in a list with the most number of cases of dengue in Central Visayas.
According to Berame a massive education campaign was implemented in different public elementary and high schools in the city.
He cited the need to reach out to people.
The Lapu-Lapu City government has set aside P2 million this year for the city health department for its campaign against the dreaded disease. (FREEMAN)
