This City Dad is fed up, Arrest Joavan or pack up

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A Talisay City councilor would like to see the police chief go if his men fail to arrest the notorious son of Mayor Socrates Fernandez in connection with the shooting incident at a pump station in Talisay City Sunday.

Councilor Romeo Villarante yesterday said he wants Supt. Eddie Recamara to quickly arrest Joavan Fernandez and file charges against him.

“For delicadeza’s sake, the Talisay City police chief should voluntarily seek for his transfer,” Villarante said, adding that the police should enforce the law.

Fernandez yesterday declined to comment while Joavan remains at large.

The Freeman telephoned Recamara but the calls were not returned.

Cebu Provincial Police Office director Patrocinio Comendador has directed the Talisay City police to immediately look for the mayor’s son.

Earlier, Recamara said Joavan has been given a week to surrender otherwise they will file charges against him for malicious mischief and illegal possession of firearms.

This was not the first time that pump attendants of Shell Bulacao accused him of harassment.

In March last year, he allegedly hit two pump boys and a security guard because his car was not filled up.

Joavan was also accused of brandishing a gun at a Petron gas station in barangay Lawaan 1 in July 2008 after the pump boys refused to fill up his car.

Joavan admitted shooting at the booth of a Shell gas station in Talisay City last Sunday when a pump boy did not attend to him.

When pump boys saw him, they all ran to the station’s convenience store as instructed by the station management because it is typical of the mayor’s son not to pay.

Joavan, with his .45 cal. pistol, fired at the cashier’s booth thrice. (FREEMAN)
