CEBU, Philippines - People from all walks of life trooped to Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex for the opening of the “Horror Booth” yesterday.

They lined up at the ticketing counter as early as 12 noon to satisfy their curiosity for this year’s new attractions.

“Our barkada has seen the show last year and we are eager to see new attractions this year,” said Maris Villanueva from Cebu City.

With the theme “Kahadlok Mo, Pinaskuhan Ko,” the Horror Booth is organized by Kaabag Mandaue, Inc. in coordination with the Mandaue City Council for the Protection of Children.

Proceeds from the booth will be spent on some 1,000 indigent children from 27 barangays in the city.

Mayor Jonas Cortes, who led the cutting of ribbon and joined the blessing of the horror booth led by Fr. Jhondy Enanoria of the National Shrine of St. Joseph, said the project is laudable and deserves support.

An advance showing for members of the media followed.

Also at the opening was Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, who was delighted at what she saw.

Engr. Emerito Cabilao, president of Kaabag Mandaue, Inc. said the horror booth occupies the ground floor area of the sports complex and is composed of three chambers each with different casts and tricks.

One of the chambers is dedicated to children and senior citizens since it is not so scary.

Entrance fee for every chamber is P20 with tickets available at the counter at the entrance gate.

Now on its sixth year, the new attraction this year is the presence of “agta” and “kapre” with longer and exciting mazes.

The show runs from Monday, Oct. 29, up to November 4, 1 p.m. to 12 midnight.

According to Cabilao, the proceeds of the show will be used to treat indigent children to a one-day Christmas party on December 21 wherein they will receive various gifts such as toys, school supplies for students, clothes and groceries, among others. (FREEMAN)
